Infertility is a growing problem globally and is considered as a difficulty in falling pregnant after 6 months to 1 year of unprotected sex, without the use of contraceptives. Sterility refers to the inability to conceive, irrespective of treatment options, but in infertility, pregnancy may be possible after treatment. Infertility affects both men and women, and in some cases, both partners may need treatment for successful conception.
Genital herpes is a viral infection that affects the genitals and surrounding skin and causes an itchy skin rash and blisters on the genitals. Although genital herpes is not a fatal sexually transmitted disease (STD), it is incurable and those infected suffer with an unbearable itch, recurring sores and pain for a lifetime. The spread of genital herpes is on the rise globally, especially among teens but in South Africa, there is greater concern about unprotected sex resulting in HIV infection.

What is Ovulation?
Ovulation is the stage in the female menstrual cycle when the ovary discharges an egg. The egg travels down the fallopian tube where it may be fertilized by a sperm. The process of ovulation is controlled by two important female sex hormones known as follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). In most women, a health menstrual cycle is 28 to 32 days and ovulation occurs approximately 12 to 16 days before the period.
Erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotence is the presence of a persistent or ongoing problem in getting or maintaining an erection for long enough to complete sexual activity. Erectile dysfunction is very common especially as men get older. American studies have shown that more than 50% of men over the age of 40 experience some degree of erectile dysfunction.

The abortion pill should not be confused with the morning after pill as it is intended for use within the first 8 weeks of pregnancy whereas the morning after pill should only be used within 3 to 5 days after intercourse. The abortion pill, mifepristone and misoprostol, is an approved pregnancy termination method in South Africa and can only be prescribed by a medical doctor.
