Is it possible to get your regular monthly period and be pregnant. The only difference which i've noticed for the past 2 months is that my period is not as heavy, and I usually get it for 7 days, but now its down to 6. I am 2 days late, which is unusual as I get it exactly every 21 days.

Hi Kgomotso

Urinary tract infections (UTI's) are common in women and even if you have recurrent vaginal infections, there is no reason why there should be any increased risk if you are having it done at legal abortion clinic. The attending doctor will deal with any infection that may occur.

Hi Masi

It is a little late to consider an abortion. Speak to your GP or gynaecologist and discuss your options with him/her. Abortion may not be an option but your doctor may be able to direct you to the right organisation that can assist with an adoption in your area. Other than that, we cannot advise you on anything that is illegal. Sorry.

I need help please. I am between 20 and 21 wks today though up until now I could not afford to have an abortion financially. I've called a few places (Marie Stropes included) who advised that it's considered illegal to have an abortion after 19 wks in SA. I've really cannot have this baby and regret not being financially able to go for an abortion sooner. Is there some way /someone will be able to help me to go ahead with an abortion legally? Do you know of instituitons, places that has helped woman in my stage before?

No they usually do not consider an abortion at such a late stage unless there are other circumstances that may be life threatening to you which warrants the abortion.

Hi Charm
This depends on a number of factors and the receptionist just gave you a basic breakdown of the procedure. The gynaecologist will assess your case once you visit him/her and advise you accordingly. In the early stages of pregnancy, a d&c can be avoided altogether (dependent on the case) but usually at 5 weeks, the d&c is recommended. Speak directly to your gynaecologist and let him/her advise you on the best possible route for your individual case.
