Ovulation, Pregnancy Due Date and Fertility Online Calculator

What is Ovulation?

Ovulation is the stage in the female menstrual cycle when the ovary discharges an egg. The egg travels down the fallopian tube where it may be fertilized by a sperm. The  process of ovulation is controlled by two important female sex hormones known as follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). In most women, a health menstrual cycle is 28 to 32 days and ovulation occurs approximately 12 to 16 days before the period.

Ovulation is usually associated with a white vaginal discharge and slight increase in body temperature. However these are not accurate methods of estimating ovulation. Your doctor may use an ovulation calender in conjunction with urine and/or blood tests to detect increasing levels of luteinzing hormone (LH).

Ovulation is an important consideration when deciding to conceive. Usually the most fertile period lasts 3 to 4 days but pregnancy may not always be possible if there are other contributing factors.

Please note that this online calculator will only estimate your date of ovulation and indicate a time frame when you should be most fertile. If you are pregnant, the online calculator will also estimate the date of delivery. If you are experiencing any symptoms of pregnancy, consult with you doctor to confirm your pregnancy. This tool is not intended to replace a consultation with a gynecologist or fertility specialist.

Please bear in mind that if you are using contraceptives, (birth control)  you may not be ovulating. Estimate due dates should be confirmed by your general practitioner or gynaecologist. Menstrual cycles that are shorter than 22 days may affect the estimated fertile period on the online calculator.

If you are suffering with any hormonal disorder or experiencing problems conceiving (infertility), the online calculator may not be accurate.  Specialist medical treatment and guidance is essential. Refer to the following articles in cases of infertility :
